Don’t ever use wax for surface finish when it comes to wood flooring. Sometimes if you spot the problem too late and it goes too deep, replacing the boards might be your best option.

To deal with minor scratches, just rewax if it’s a wax finish floor and buff.. Surface finishes can be treated with touch-up kits made for the purpose. You can find the latter in most specialized shops. It will contain hardwood floor cleaner too. Food stains and chunks need to be blotted lightly with a damp but well wrung out cloth, then scrapped off carefully without damaging the surface. Use of plastic tools for such an eventuality gives better results.

Some of the oils or petrochemical products like greases could prove to be highly dangerous for wax floor if left unattended for long. Use home varnish cleaning for this. In case of a floor with a wax finish, soak up the material thoroughly and clean the spot with a clean dry sponge before finally wiping off the residue with a clan cloth. Repeat one or more times if necessary. You could get over the stains by softly rubbing the affected area , using mineral spirits and tri-sodium phosphate on a piece of clean cloth.
